On Saturday, October 19 at 8:00 a.m., thousands of people will be join together in Balboa Park for the San Diego Walk to End Alzheimer’s. All proceeds benefit the Alzheimer’s Association, and while there is no fee to participate in the walk all registered walkers are encouraged to raise $25 or more toward the cause.
So far this year the San Diego Walk to End Alzheimer’s has raised over $215,000 with over 25 teams and almost 1,700 walkers. Their goal is to raise $300,000 for the Alzheimer’s Association through this year’s Walk.
The Alzheimer’s Association advances research to end Alzheimer’s and dementia, and also provides care and assistance to those living with the disease. Alzheimer’s is the sixth-leading cause of death in the United States, affecting one in every eight Americans. In 2013, Alzheimer’s will cost the nation $203 billion, and this number is expected to rise to $1.2 trillion by 2050.
