After being convicted last month of mistreating a severely autistic man, two caregivers, Michael Garritson, 62, and Matthew McDuffie, 28, were sentenced Monday to probation. The autistic man’s mother installed a video camera in her son’s bedroom in July, which uncovered footage of the caregivers abusing her son. Jamie Oakley, 24, who cannot speak and requires constant supervision, was repeatedly abused by Garritson and McDuffie who would torment Oakley by poking him in the eyes, twist his arms, pull his hair, slap him, and stomp on his feet.
