A cyclist was involved in a fatal accident in Chula Vista on Monday.
Forty-four year old David Voigt was biking home after work from Sweetwater Authority when he was hit by a stolen Nissan Maxima near East J Street and Dennis Avenue.
The Chula Vista police indicate that the driver, Michael Reyes, was under the influence of alcohol. Reyes is being charged with gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, car theft, and possession of methamphetamine. Reyes has previously been convicted of a number of drug related and felony charges.
In memory of David Voigt a ghost bike, a bike painted entirely white, was added to Voigt’s sidewalk shrine. Ghost bikes can be found throughout the nation to memorialize the loss of cyclists and as a reminder to all to drive safely. Voigt was a father of two and a husband. He enjoyed cycling and riding motorcycles in his spare time.
The attorneys and staff at Berman & Riedel would like to extended our sincerest condolences to the family and friends of David Voigt.
