RAMONA, CALIFORNIA – Alexandria Drake, 25, was tragically killed as a result of her car being struck Sunday on Route 67 in Ramona. The accident happened at about 11:15 a.m. south of Archie Moore Road. After being severely injured in the crash, Ms. Drake was taken to the hospital where she passed away, leaving a loving family. The accident involved a reckless car race between a Jaguar and BMW going more than 80 mph. The Jaguar was driven by Melvin Pearless, 47, of Ranchita, and authorities are still looking for the driver of the BMW, who fled the scene.
Ms. Drake’s mother, Pam McKeirnan, is hoping that the authorities find both drivers so that justice can be done. Importantly, while a criminal prosecution can certainly provide a sense of justice, the civil justice system is also an avenue to hold people accountable for wrongful acts. In a case such as this the surviving family members of Ms. Drake, for example, can pursue a wrongful death claim and receive compensation from the racing drivers.
