A pedestrian was struck by a northbound Amtrak train Monday shortly before 10:00 p.m. in Carlsbad causing serious injury. According to police Lt. Pete Pascual, the man was hit near Grand Avenue and State Street and flown by medical helicopter to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla with serious injuries. An investigation into the cause of the incident is underway by the Sheriff’s Department, which routinely investigates train accidents in the county.
This incident now marks at least the third such local San Diego incident this year involving a train causing serious injuries to a pedestrian. The attorneys and staff at Berman & Riedel, LLP wish the best for the injured man in making a full recovery. Moreover, we hope that the recent incidents serve as a reminder to the owners and operators of trains to take all of the proper precautions necessary to avoid the danger posed by large, fast moving trains that can result in accidents causing serious injury and/or death.
