MORENO VALLEY, CALIFORNIA – An 18-year-old boy was left in critical condition after the car he was in slammed into the back of a big rig in Moreno Valley at the end of September. The boy was 18-year-old Benjamin Perez of Moreno Valley. He was a passenger in 19-year-old Mark Tungcab’s Acura when Tungcab was driving under the influence.
Tungcab crashed into the back of the big rig and the roof was shaved off his car. When the roof was sheared off, both of the passengers sustained head trauma. The accident occurred at Perris Boulevard and Globe Street on September 22. Benjamin Perez was in the front passenger seat at the time of the accident. He was taken to Riverside Regional Memorial Hospital and was on life support as of Wednesday, September 23. An update on his condition was not available.
The other passenger, 18-year-old Oscar Ramirez was sitting in the rear passenger side seat at the time of the collision. He was also taken to Riverside Regional Memorial Hospital. He, however, tragically died at the hospital on the morning of the 23. Tungcab hit the truck as it was headed north on Perris Boulevard. The big rig had reportedly made an illegal lane change near Globe Street just prior to the collision. Tungcab was intoxicated at the time of the collision. He was arrested on suspicion of misdemeanor driving under the influence. He was booked into the jail but was released the next day on $2,500 bond.
