SAN MATEO, CALIFORNIA – A hit-and-run accident caused a multiple lane blockage of U.S. Highway 101 northbound in San Mateo for about an hour early Wednesday morning. Officials said that two vehicles were involved in the accident, however, one of the vehicles fled the scene of the accident. At least one person suffered serious injuries and authorities were forced to close all but the left lane of the highway so rescue crew could rescue a victim from one of the vehicles involved in the accident.
In circumstances where a driver causes a hit-and-run accident and flees the scene despite causing injury, the injured person may nevertheless be able to recover damages for their injuries and other related losses against their own insurance company if they maintain Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Coverage (UM Coverage) on their policy. This is another very important reason to have such UM Coverage; it serves to protect the injured person if the wrongdoing driver flees the scene and is never found. In such circumstances, the injured victim can look upon the own insurance company to satisfy any and all damages they could have claimed against the responsible driver, up to the limits of their own UM Coverage. An attorney knowledgeable in handling such claims will know how to proceed in successfully presenting a UM Claim. The attorneys at Berman & Riedel, LLP, have handled many such cases, and with tremendous results.
