A 49-year-old man who was injured in a San Diego construction accident last summer died on Wednesday from complications from his injuries.
Tyrone Allen was one of sixteen people seriously injured in the August 28, 2008 accident. The incident occurred in the East Village area of downtown when a walkway collapsed next to an apartment complex that was under construction. Allen and his wife were staying in a homeless shelter near the walkway when he was injured. The accident left Allen a quadriplegic.
Allen and his wife sued Carlsbad-based Allgire General Contractors, Studio 15 Housing Partners, who provided the financial backing for the construction, and Paramount Scaffold, Inc., who provided the scaffolding.
The negligence suit against the companies will now be amended to include a wrongful death claim. The cause of the collapse is still under investigation.
