Every single day in the United States, nearly 300,000 people get behind the wheel and drive while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, killing almost 10,000 victims annually. There are several organizations which work to increase awareness and support victims about this important issue in our communities, including Mother’s Against Drunk Driving (MADD).
Established in 1980, MADD has evolved into one of the most widely-supported and influential non-profit organizations in the US. Now in its 35th year, MADD continues its life-saving mission to eliminate drunk and impaired driving from our communities, giving support for victims and their families as well as sponsoring many preventative programs to encourage people to think before they get behind the wheel.
MAAD’s signature event, Walk Like MADD, celebrates a future without drunk driving and honors those lost or injured in crashes involving impaired drivers. Over 60 cities from around the country will participate and thousands of people will walk this year in cities throughout the U.S., including San Diego, which is one of the cities proudly participating in this worthy cause. This is your opportunity to do something about drunk and impaired driving in your community.
